The popular tourist attraction in Pushkar which is one of the few temples dedicated to Lord Brahma in India, Brahma Temple is a heritage attraction in Rajasthan. According to Brahma Temple history, Lord Brahma chose this location himself and the temple was built by the renowned sage Vishwamitra. However, the ancient temple along with several other temples was destroyed. The great philosopher Adi Shankaracharya renovated it while the present structure was repaired by Maharaja Jawat Raj from Ratlam by retaining the original design. One of the best places to visit in Pushkar on a Pushkar Rajasthan tour, this temple is situated on a high plinth.
Devotees have to climb a number of marble steps to reach the structure which has an entry gate decorated with canopies. The temple is made of stone blocks and slabs which are joined by molten lead. The temple has a mandapa, garbhagriha, shikara and a hamsa, which is believed to be the symbol of Lord Brahma. A Pushkar sightseeing tour to this temple is said to have been completed if devotees also visit Gayatri and Savitri Temples, which are dedicated to Brahma’s two consorts, respectively.
