Animals in Ranthambore

The Royal Bengal tiger is a major highlight of the Ranthambore National Park. It is one of the ideal places for tiger sightings in India. You can spot tigers around the lakes and while they are roaming in the beautiful landscapes of the park. Take a stroll around the park to watch tigers in their natural surroundings during the jeep and canter safari. There are 10 safari zones in the park out of which zones 1-5 are best for tiger spotting. 

Apart from having a large tiger population, Ranthambore National Park also features a huge range of leopards. There are more than 40 mammal species in the park and the leopard is one of them. Leopard is another addition to the cat family and is found majorly in Ranthambore park. Leopards can easily be spotted in the hilly terrains of the jungle during the summer when they come out to drink water. Get on a jeep safari to get the best views of the leopards. 

The majestic spotted deer is found in the deciduous forests of Ranthambore. It is one of the popular fauna and also a very commonly found deer species in India. The spotted deer also goes by the name “chital” and you will love the white patches on the golden fur of the animal. The spotted deer is indeed the most exquisite and gorgeous of all the wild mammals that inhabit the jungle. 

Reptiles are a major part of the Ranthambore national park and are a vital reason why tourists love to visit the park apart from the tigers. The serene lakes in the park are home to the massive crocodiles found in the jungle. The most commonly found crocodile species is the “marsh crocodile”. Along with it, the park also supports a large crocodile population due to the good amount of rainfall it receives during the monsoon. 

India supports four bear species and one of the most popular is the sloth bear. These are majorly found in the jungles of South India, however, Ranthambore park is another major hub of the sloth bears. If you are lucky sloth bears can be spotted during the jungle safari. The climate in the forest is very favorable for the bears and thus, there is a decent bear population in the national park. 

Chinkara also known as the “Indian Gazelle” is widely found in the jungles of Rajasthan. Due to the favorable terrains in the forest like dry grasslands, and desert regions Chinkara occupies a large forest area. It is considered one of the endangered species in Ranthambore national park. Tourists can book a jeep or canter safari to closely witness the beautiful world of the Chinkara in its natural habitat. 

Sambar Deer is widely found in the Ranthambore national park, the deer species is specified as the largest deer in India with impressive antlers. They feed primarily on the vegetation in the jungle. Sambar Deer are quite comfortable in the water and can be found around the freshwater lakes in the forest. The deer population in the park is approximately five to eight thousand, thus serving as one of the biggest areas for Sambar in India. 

Wild boars or wild pigs are quite popular in Ranthambore. The male boars can be differentiated from the females as they have tusks. Compared to other varieties, the Indian wild boar has a dense coat and a large crest of black bristles. Wild Boar mostly feed on plants, tubers, and other insects. Ranthambhore has a healthy wild boar population and tourists can witness the species in the jungle landscapes.
